Ian M. Brooks, PhD
Director of Surgical Research, Anne Arundel Medical Center
Dr. Brooks is Director of Surgical Research at Anne Arundel Medical Center, in Annapolis, MD. He was previously Associate Director of Biomedical Informatics for MedStar Health Research Institute, and prior to that Associate Director for Biomedical Informatics at the UTHSC-ORNL Center for Biomedical Informatics, and faculty in the Dept. of Preventive Medicine, at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, in Memphis, TN.
Dr. Brooks manages the surgical research enterprise across the Anne Arundel Health System, and develops, implements and administers data mining and management tools to facilitate advanced progress in biomedical research. Dr. Brooks has experience in the logistics, planning and execution of complex clinical and translational research projects, and is a member of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Network IT Working Group. In his previous positions as associate director at MHRI and the UTHSC-ORNL-CBMI he provided clinical research informatics support and domain expertise, and deployed secure data systems to serve the biomedical and clinical-research communities, including the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Brooks has experience managing and developing various customized clinical data management systems (REDCap, i2b2, TrinetX, Slim-Prim). His research has been funded by various agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Department of Defense, and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.
